Welcome to ‘Plants and People'

Until December 21st 2018, the Museum of National History and Science in Lisbon welcomes the Plants and People exhibition.

On the occasion of this exhibition, more than 300 objects of ethno-botanical and ethnographic collections are gathered together to illustrate to the general public the various uses of plants. In search of knowledge about the traditional and local use of flora by people around the world, you will meander through the images and films provided by the Institute of Tropical Scientific Investigation, which has spent many years studying the use of plants in the 19th and 20th centuries. From America to Asia and Africa, discover their most diverse applications throughout history: men have used flora for medical, artistic, food, religious and aesthetic purposes, and even in the transport sector as well as for clothing and housing. All this can be discovered throughout the three parts of the exhibition: ‘Care', ‘Transcend' and ‘Transform'.
