A few kilometres away from Nairobi, you will find the farm of Danish author Karen Blixen (1885-1962), whose book Out of Africa was adapted into a movie in 1985. The house, built in colonial style and surrounded with bougainvillea flowers, has been preserved in its original state, allowing you to gleefully wander around furniture and items gathered and loved by the ancient owner.
In the garden that backs onto the forest, a table made of stone stands out in the middle of giant acacia trees and cacti. Built with a grindstone, it used to be on the spot where Karen Blixen gathered the employees of her coffee plantation every morning.
Not far from the museum, several locations now take on the prestigious name, including the capital's oldest golf course, a restaurant where to enjoy Swahili prawns, as well as the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden that welcomes you in Baron Blixen's old hunting lodge.
